About the Artist

about_jane

This is my mug!  I am actually clean in this picture, no paint on my clothes, no paint in my hair, on my face or on my shoes!  I do clean up nicely as you can see.  But my preferred look is to wear my paint splatter clothes!  For those who wonder, I do actually get more paint on my canvas then on my clothes but I am not sure you could say that about my poor studio floor.  Must be all the jumping around to the music I have blasting that makes the bottles fall off my table!  That is why my paintings have so much energy – the dancing and general craziness in my studio!

I wanted to be an architect when I was growing up in Jacksonville, FLA and dearly wanted to go to UVA and study architecture there.  I majored in art instead getting a BFA with a focus in drawing and painting.  I was lucky to go to Italy and sit on the street corners and draw to my hearts content.  I still love to go to Italy when I can.  But back to wanting to be an architect, I think that influences my painting style as I call my paintings my construction projects with all the layers of paint, collage, and drawing and maybe the kitchen sink too.  I do love going to Home Depot to look for tools to paint with!

Yes I love to have fun and painting is what keeps me the happiest.  Creating is part of my soul and without it I would be a rather dull person.  I also enjoy sharing my love of art with others and am a resident artist at the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton, VA and an instructor there too teaching mixed media.  There is so much you can do with mixed media!  Hope you take the time to look at my art and to learn more about my crazy creations!
